urchin mp3s
THIS USE TO BE THE URCHIN "MP3
OF THE WEEK" PAGE, BUT NOW SINCE WE ARE TOTAL ROAD
WARRIORS, BRINGING THE ROCK TO EVERYONE FIRST HAND, WE
DON'T HAVE TIME TO UPDATE THE PAGE WEEKLY, BUT WE WILL
STILL ADD SOME PERIODICALLY - BUT YOU ARE SPOILED ANYWAY
IF YOU'RE PISSED BECAUSE THERE ARE A SHITLOAD OF MP3s
HERE ANYWAY. I DON'T THINK THAT MADE ANY SENSE. ROCK ON!!
December
17, 2001 - Boys
Are Back In Town (live in Athens, ga - with jerry
trebotic from watt's band on drums Thin
Lizzy cover
Yo, so it has been too too long, as usual,
since we put up an mp3 of the week. maybe i should change
the title of this page to just "URCHIN MP3s" or
something, because we are so busy these days, i can't get
to one every week. nonetheless, this thin lizzy song was
something that we did a few nights on the fall 2001 tour,
and it was a chance for me to come out from behind the
drums and sing the song out front because jerry trebotic,
the drummer from watt's band, would come up to jam it
out, and this version especially, jerry kicks it pretty
hard - it was the last show on the tour 10/20 and we were
really primed up from being on the road for a month. we
love thin lizzy, you should too, go and pick up all their
albums tomorrow!!! and listen to jerry trebotic kick it
hard with the urchin!!!
April 2,
2001 - Jack
& Dianne Part II new
song from the now infamous king crab demo sessions
Hey all, we are in the studio right now, and
luckily have the ability to update things on the website
here. So, I thought it was a good opportunity to put up a
new jam for ya that was recorded before we got to
Chicago. This is a brand new urchin tune from the king
crab demo recording sessions this winter. We felt that
since we haven't played around in a while, or haven't put
up any new mp3's of the week, that we at least owe you a
new song or something - at least. So, enjoy this new tune
and hopefully it can tie you over for a while until we
get back out on the road.
February 3,
2001 - Constantinople
Live w/ Glenn from Ween from
New Hope, PA
This gem is a recording from the one gig we
did with Glenn McClelland, keyboardist from Ween, in New
Hope PA at John & Peter's, on November 22,
2000. He came in, which was an honor for us, and
fit right in the mix, and brought a fuckin' super
dimension to the urchin songbook. The show ran over
3 hours and I wish we could get the whole show up on the
site, cause it was some awesome stuff, but it is just too
much space. This version of Constantinople, and I
know we have a couple of constantinople downloads
already, is worth the listen because the fire is there,
and glenn's addition brings the tune to a new level - he
brought out better performances in all of us because he
is the master musician.
January 25,
2001 - The
Spirit Of Radio live
from Brownies
This has been the longest time yet since a
new MP3 of the week has been put up, but we have been on
the road and I finally got my mac configured to encode
MP3's from DAT - so, here, for your listening enjoyment,
straight from the December 22nd Brownies X-mas show, is
an exceptionally "festive" version of the Rush
tune "Sprirt Of Radio"!!! It is a real
funny recording, but rocks in true style, and you can
tell that there were a couple of egg nogs involved in the
festivites. Another great urchin moment in time
captured for your enjoyment, and I hope to keep you up on
new MP3's, especially considering that we now have piles
of DATs lying around from our recent tour, of some more
great urchin moments. enjoy.
December 1,
2000 - Constantinople rare
urchin recording
Constantinople is a tune you all should know
because we play a brief version of it every night these
days - it usually comes out of Space Station with the
"go man go's". This particular recording
of it is super rare and has one of the best B-ILL solos
laid down to tape. This is a cool recording also
because the song has always existed along with SS456 but
here it is for ya as a stand alone, and truthfully the
only time ever it was played that way.
November
15, 2000 - Fearless
Vampire Killers demo
version
This song, which appears on the RCA EP, has
become a real urchin classic these days, and sort of even
has its own fan base aside from the usual urchin songs
people identify us with. That is a great thing
because we like to keep exploring new ground musically,
so I'm glad people dig this jam. Well, I always
like to hear where the origin of a song came from, so I
figured that some people out there would like to as well,
so I am including this special 4-track demo version of
the song that was the basis for the version that made it
on the EP. It's a real raw, razor sharp version,
but I think the feeling is way in tact. So, enjoy
this version that was made in my living room.
November
2, 2000 - Space
Station On The 4,5 & 6/Constantinople/These
Are The People Of The Time (live from Wetlands)
Alright! We are back here
with a brand new MP3 of the week! It has been
about a month since the last one, so I figured it
would be best to make this a real good one. This
is a FIERCE live version of Space Station which
includes the two tunes that we have recently been
going into from SS456, which are
"Constantinople" (which most people
will know from the "go man go"'s) and a
real sick "These Are The People of the
Time" to end out the onslaught. This
performance of Space Station is definitely the
best version we have documented and luckily the
recording is super crisp and transferred to mp3
real well. It's too bad you can't see the mosh
pit that formed during the tail end of
TATPOTT. We got a request for this one and
I think this will do all Space Station fans some
serious justice. Also, I will try my best
to give you guys some more goodie mp3's more
regular than I have been. Rock out!
October
3, 2000 - Briceskating
(original)
the first ever
URCHIN recording!!
I was digging through my
big trunk full of tapes over the weekend and came
across my only copy of the first ever URCHIN
recording, Briceskating! We still play this song
live, and a different version surfaced on our
first now out of print cd, but this is the bare
bones first version complete with disco whistles
at the end. This recording was done with the
legend, Barbie Smooth, producing and was done in
one night by me and Barbie over some gin and
tonics in March of '97 (!). Little did we know at
that time that the URCHIN would keep on growing
to become the best rock band on the planet and
actually see a real major label release. Anyway,
this recording is straight from cassette to MP3
(which I love the transfer of old tapes to
digital) and was done completely with samples,
something that we don't use any more. So, here is
a gem of a jam only for anyone who takes the time
to download our MP3's of the week - enjoy.
September
27, 2000 - Deuce
live from
Urbana, IL w/ Jerry from The URGE!!
Well, I'm back from the
road, sorry 'bout slackin' with the MP3's, but
this one will be worth the wait. This KISS cover
was recorded during our last show with The URGE
on our Midwest Tour with them in Urbana IL at The
Canopy Club. We did some serious hangin' with the
URGE guys and they were all cool as shit, so we
decided to finish off our set with true rock
style by doing Deuce with Jerry from the band. He
is singing lead vocal with me and B-ILL, you can
hear him do the "Ace Frehley, Shock Me"
shit and the screams - total rock shit!!! Enjoy!!
Also, listen to the end of the MP3 for some of
the festivities from our last show, including a
rendition of "To the man in the portable
office, I didn't mean to drink the band's
vodka".
September
5, 2000 - Local
48 from
The Brownass Sessions, Winter 2000
This rockin' recording of
our song for our roadie and friend, Local 48, is
from our pre-production sessions for the RCA EP
in January 2000, with Dean Ween & Chris Shaw
producing. This is one of the songs we did live
to tape in one day at Greg Frey's Graphic Sound
Studios. We got a request to put this one up as
MP3 of the week, and we think that this recording
is the one for you guys to have in your MP3
collections. This guy, Local 48 is infamous, he's
a crazy Texan, he's a daredevil, he likes playing
with fire and likes being tossed down the stairs
in a trash can - but he is one of the nicest guys
you'll ever meet.
August
21, 2000 - The
Heater
from Wetlands,
NYC 7/28/00
This jam surfaces at live
shows on occasion, but only when the night gets
super-hot!! And this particular night at Wetlands
was a real pressure cooker and it forced out a
serious "Heater" on the band and crowd
pretty unexpectedly!! "The Heater" is
never a planned song in the set list, it is one
that just kinda pops up on its own - and this is
a choice representation of the song, so now when
you guys go to shows, you'll know what it is
when, and if, it pops up again. Enjoy The Heater
- HO!
August
14, 2000 - Mr.
Hanalei XXX Remix
crazy-ass sexy
dance mix
These real hip dudes who
are into crazy electronic music did a remix of
our best song, "Mr. Hanalei". This mix
fuckin' rocks and is pretty sexy and XXX. Turn
this mix up at a party and sit back and watch the
people get down!!!
August
7, 2000 - At
The Linwood
from The
Linwood, Boston, MA 7/20/00
This wierd little moment in
time rounds out 3 in a row from our now infamous
Perfect Storm mini-tour. The song is basically
how we entered our set at "The Linwood"
in Boston. The crowd was sort of lame at first
and it just seemed more right to start the set
off with an impromptu song about the club we were
about to play, rather than going through the
motions like the crowd wasn't lame. The funny
thing is, is that it turned the vibe of the night
around real quick and the people got real into
the Linwood song. You'll see when you download
this one, but it is basically pretty horrible -
and even more horrible when you try to get it out
of your head. People were singing it back to us
way after we finished the set that night. That
would suck if it became our mega-hit someday.
Enjoy The Sound of URCHIN's worst song!!!
July
24, 2000 - The
Perfect Storm
from Portland,
Maine 7/22/00
We called our 3 day New
England tour "The Perfect Storm"
because of the movie that's out now, that's based
in a New England fishing town. We had a seriously
funny time and feel that this snippet from the
Portland Maine show at The Skinny really captures
the vibe of the tour, even though it's a lot of
playing around, rather than an actual
"serious" URCHIN composition. This is
some priceless stuff to us, take it for what you
will.
July
17, 2000 - Megablast
Public Enemy
cover from 7/1/00 New Hope show
We are always jammin' PE in
the van and decided to try rockin' out this jam
recently at the July 1st John & Peter's show
in New Hope, PA. It's a little rusty here and
there, but does the trick. It's me and B-ILL on
vocals.
July
10, 2000 - Cherry
Mountain (Herdin' The Sheep)
live party
version
I know this song has been
an MP3 of the week already, but this rendition is
totally worth the download!!! It is from a party
we played in South Jersey just last Saturday
night (7/10/00), and is a super hyped-up live
version of the song because our photographer
Bones had a little too much yuengling early on
and asked us if he could get up and the song with
us. I'm surprised that he made it through the
song and didn't miss a trick, and he also pumped
the version up seriously - so by the last gang
chorus our friend Todd came up and and added to
the mayhem - this is some pure rock n' roll,
kids!!!
June
26, 2000 - Green
Green Gold
from the
Detroit Bar Mitzvah, 6/17/00
This is from our manager's sons Bar
Miztvah, and features 9 year old Josh Smith on
lead vocals, a total hoot!! This wasn't planned,
he just happened to know all the words and the
confidence to get up there in front of everyone
and lead the song.
June
12, 2000 - Cherry
Mountain (Herdin' The Sheep)
4-track demo
This one, from the URCHIN vaults, is
the original 4 track demo version, recorded Fall
'99. It is Tomato on all the instruments, and is
what he presented to the band as a new song back
then, which has since become a favorite live
URCHIN tune.
