THE SOUND OF URCHIN

"PICKS DICKS LIVE
CD SERIES"

Now available for the first time through Steven Records, because of the demand to hear live URCHIN on cd, we have put together the following 6 "Pick's Dicks Series" of live URCHIN shows in their entirety on cd, each one hand-picked from URCHIN's own collection of recorded shows!!!!

To purchase these handmade grassroots collectors items (available only while they last), e-mail stevenrecs@yahoo.com with the Pick's Dicks cd #, quantity, and your mailing address, and we will e-mail you back with payement instructions. We will be adding shows new and old to the series every so often, but remember these are very, very limited edition at this point and hand burned by us - that's why we have to charge so much for 'em (even though they're still cheaper than normal cds).

  Pick's Dicks #1 ($15.00)
Westbeth Theater, NYC, New Years Eve '98-'99
This incredible 60 minute URCHIN performance is from The Westbeth Theater in NYC from New Years Eve '98-'99 in front of a sold out crowd of 800 opening for Ween. The recording quality is excellent, recorded by Ween soundman Kirk Miller using two huge room mikes. It was the first real big show URCHIN played as a band, and the energy is intense. An amazing moment happens on the cd where Tomato11 is talking about their hometown, Brazil, and some guy in the audience makes his way up to the stage with his Brazillian driver's license.

Club 9:30, DC, January 2nd, 1999
This incredible 30 minute URCHIN performance is from The 9:30 Club in DC from January 2nd, 1999 in front of a sold out crowd of 1,200 opening for Ween. The recording is an excellent board recording and serves as a document of Barbie Smooth's last performance as a live band member. This powerhouse set opens with a slamming Kiss cover, Deuce, and is non-stop through to the last notes of Green Green Gold where the band goes into an impromptu Springsteen Rosalita chant to finish out the 30 minuites that the band was allowed due to the club curfew. Included on this cd to give you your money's worth are rare 4-track demos and unreleased recordings of songs URCHIN fans have grown to know from URCHIN live shows.

  Pick's Dicks #3 ($20.00)
Brownies Zoidfest, NYC, May 14, 1999
This crazy hour and a half, 2 cd, performance is the closing set from the May 14, 1999 Zoidfest Music Festival at the infamous Brownies on Avenue A in the cool East Village, NYC. One of the best URCHIN shows, this board mix has a couple of gliches in it due to the band overpowering the soundboard, but otherwise is a rockin' recording where every instrument is totally close and dry. This was the first live performance of Local 48, which is slammin' and also features the first addition of the Constantinople section to the ever-growing Space Station. SS456 also features a great Phon-X section where he is totally on fire. Also one of the best things about this performance is the between song banter, which is totally loose and priceless, with B-ILL interjecting B-52's lines all throughout the set, toatlly cracking Tomato up.

  Pick's Dicks #4 ($20.00)
"L'URCHIN Nous Sommes Fammile Show"
Featuring Black Sebabbitt
The Baggot Inn, NYC, June 5th, 1999
This piece of URCHIN history, 2 cd set, clocks in at over an hour and a half and was the only performace ever of "L'URCHIN Nous Sommes Fammile" at The Baggot Inn, NYC - where URCHIN had Black Sebabbit (the voice in between the songs on URCHIN's first studio cd) actually telling a live story about his adventures looking for his lost martini shaker between the songs, amazingly tying the set together. Black's story is indescribable and totally out of this world, which you will only begin to understand after listening to the cd a bunch of times, and he even ties in some of the quotes we all know and love from the URCHIN cd. And the powerhouse URCHIN performance features an intense Tomato11 drum solo out of "The Junius Ponds", as well as a brief but insane cover version of the Approval song "I Just Saw The Bunny". Also, B-ILL does a great rendition of the Dead tune "Sugaree" which will show you why URCHIN is the only band worthy of covering any Dead song. This totally mint live to DAT recording by John Brown from Blade Music, is a great documentation of this once in a lifetime performance. People were actually throwing plastic alligators on the stage during "The Alligator". Listen to highlights from this show in Real Audio at URCHIN's download page

  Pick's Dicks #5 ($20.00)
St. Patty's Show/Scotty Choc B-day Show
The Baggot Inn, NYC, March 13, 1999
This slammin' set is a great documentation of a 1999 URCHIN Baggot show, where the band and crowd raise the energy level to the highest point almost tearing the roof off the joint. This show includes one of the only times URCHIN used the infamous "URCHIN Intro Tape" to start off the show, as well as this being a show from "The Pajama Period" where the boys wore old man pajamas for no good reason at all. This small period of time added an added sense of craziness to the performance since the pajamas gave the band a reason to rock harder. This recording is live to Tomato's DAT, which clips a bit when the band gets loud, but once you get past that it is a totally crisp recording of a classic performance. B-ILL does another incredible Dead cover, this one being "Fire On The Mountain", and this was also one of the first performances of the almost 20 minute loong SS456.

  Pick's Dicks #6 ($20.00)
URCHIN's 1st B-Day Show (now known as "The Crank Set")
The Baggot Inn, NYC, August 21, 1999
This is our newest addition to the Picks Dicks series, and also happens to be the latest NYC show. This set was on fire and definitely was the most intense that the band has got in its year in existence. This was a celebration. John Brown from Blade Music did a great job recording this show on DAT, and got a real warm and crisp recording of the insanity. The set opens with a blazingly fast cover of Thin Lizzy's "The Boys Are Back In Town" and then goes right into "Green Green Gold", which URCHIN has never put so early in a set. Which puts the usual URCHIN opener, "Briceskating" in the middle of the set, sparking new life into one of URCHIN's most loved jams. This is also Scotty Choc's finest performance with the band yet, showing his definite mark in the music and personality as a great guitar player. This set has lots of surprises and features the longest and most fierce SS456 to date, clocking in at over 30 minutes and including an impromptu "Fire On The Mountain" which wasn't planned at all, as well as some crazy syncopated riffing between all of the guys in the band that highlights their tightness these days, as well as Tomato kicking his drums over at the end of the "These Are The People Of The Time" section of the song. This is a must for an URCHIN fan!!!! Listen to it in Real Audio at URCHIN's download page
